Wayfarer Munsiyari

Wayfarer has been involved  with Munsiyari ever since 1997 . Initially we commenced operations in this remote place with just a few Swiss tents . Today we offer a ethnically well designed mountain lodge that provides visitors an experience of being part of the local cultural setting without compromising on essential modern comforts . Located next to the Tribal Heritage Museum , and surrounded by deep greenery with a stream flowing past , Wayfarer Munsiyari  is built to cater to the tastes of all nature lovers.

Brief of Rooms

  • Currently the lodge  has 14 guest rooms comprising :

    Four premium rooms : all well  furnished double occupancy rooms with ethnic fire places and  with attached modern bathrooms ;

    Five  deluxe rooms : well  furnished double occupancy rooms with  heating facilities and  attached modern bathrooms 

    Five deluxe cottage  rooms: traditionally  designed and  well furnished double occupancy rooms  fitted with ethnic fire places and  attached modern bathrooms 

    There is   restaurant with a capacity to accommodate 20 guests at a time. The restaurant extends to an open terrace which faces the overwhelming Panch Chulli mountains . The terrace has ample outdoor furniture to enable guests to sit and relax in the open. Besides the restaurant and the outdoor terrace , the hotel has a separate lounge , well furnished for guests to enjoy themselves in the evenings. 

Best Seasons

Barring the period from July to September , when the monsoon rains cause damage to the access roads, Munsiyari can be visited from October until June every year.

Autumn : The post monsoon season (October to December) is a time of settled weather with clear views of the mountains 

Winter :  The period from January to March is when Munsiyari experiences snowfall . For those who can bear the cold  , this could be a good time to visit Munsiyari . 

Spring and Summer : From April onwards the climate warms up , passes in the higher regions open up and Munsiyari witnesses large numbers of tourists . The weather is generally settled barring the occasional pre monsoon rainfall  that can occur  at any time. 

Getting there

To get to Munsyari you could travel by road or  train up to Kathgodam . From Kathgodam you woukld need to drive up the regular hilly road to either Ranikhet or Almora – a three  hours  drive that takes you past Bhimtal and   Bhowali, You could stop for the night either at Ranikhet or Almora. 

From Ranikhet the access is through Someshwar ,  Kausani , Baijnath , Kapkot, Sama, Tejam , Birthi Fall to Munsiyari.

From Almora  the access is through Bageshwar,  Vijaypur , Chaukhori ,  Thal, Nachni, Tejam, Birthi Fall to Munsiyari. 

Trains from Delhi, Kolkata , Lucknow and Bareilly connect to Kathgodam daily. People driving from Delhi could come directly to Ranikhet and stop for the night at Snow View Hotel , a Wayfarer related property.  Thereafter they may proceed to Munsyari through Kausani, Baijnath, Kapkot, Sama, Tejam , Birthi Fall to Munsiyari.

Wayfarer Munsiyari is located three  kilometers from  Munsiyari   bus stand in village Sarmauli  . From the Munsiyari  bus stand one needs to drive into  the main market and past the State Bank of India  towards the Tribal Heritage Museum. Munsiyari is 625 kms from Delhi , 280 kms from Kathgodam and 200 kms from Ranikhet
